America’s Cup World Series – Gothenburg – Day 2

The interviews from day 2 of the America’s Cup World Series in Gothenburg! But what went down in the racing? It was a complete mix up on yesterday with local team Artemis Racing coming back from a capsize on the practice race day, and running aground yesterday to take a bullet in race one. Emirates […]

AUs Sailing Team

One year until Rio 2016

Congratulations to all of the medallists at the Rio 2016 ISAF Test Event, but also those who didn’t medal, and the mass of support crews and families behind all of the sailors. Olympic sailing is a tough road that is often underrated due to the public perception of our sport, and I have to say […]

fastnet 5 (2)

No records, but plenty of smiles at Fastnet finish

I am now calling it #rainmouth, but all are happy here in Plymouth despite a very tricky 2015 Rolex Fastnet race (now known as #slownet). Was great (although wet) to meet Team SCA on the dock this afternoon. A quick turnaround and they are already heading back to Gosport. Check out the video below – […]

America’s Cup World Series

Day 2 Portsmouth – Wrap up!

Everyone was ready for some more ACWS racing today except for the weather. With winds well outside of the recommended 25 knots the organisers had no choice but to abandon racing.

Hear from five of the six skippers: Nathan Outteridge – Artemis Racing, Franck Cammas – Groupama Team France, Dean Barker – SoftBank Team Japan, Jimmy Spithill – Oracle Team USA and home town victor Ben Ainslie – Land Rover BAR.

Even with racing being called off today, was still great to be here and see the boats in action. Can’t wait for Gothenburg in August!

Day 2 – Portsmouth – The perfect coffee

At the start of the week when I first showed the media interns at ACWS how to make a coffee, I told them we would film it at the end of the week. Awesome job by Rachel to present, and also Matt for filming this little video. I do make a mean Nespresso coffee! Sailor Girl xx

Day 2 – Portsmouth – Breeze on!

Hey guys – just a preview of the conditions on today’s race track! Seriously breeze on… Racing has already been brought forward to midday, one hour away local time… Will keep you posted on whether racing goes ahead! From a cold and now wet Sailor Girl xx

Day 1 – Portsmouth

Finally it was time to see the AC45’s line up today for the first day of racing for the 35th America’s Cup at the AC World Series in Portsmouth. Land Rover Ben Ainslie Racing won the first race on home turf and were second in race two sitting them in the lead after day one. Emirates Team New Zealand won the second race, and with a third in race one they are in second place ahead of defenders Oracle Team USA.

This video kicks off on the water just before racing, with glimpses from my visit to the technical team bases this morning.

Then it is straight into the media scrum post racing for interviews with all the team: Dean Barker – SoftBank Team Japan, Frank Cammas – Groupama Team France, Nathan Outteridge – Artemis Racing, Sir Ben Ainslie – Land Rover BAR, Pete Burling – ETNZ and Jimmy Spithill – Oracle Team USA.

Enjoy xx

Practice Race Day – Portsmouth

Managed to catch up with three skippers today after the boats had their first chance to line up. Dean Barker of SoftBank Team Japan, Ben Ainslie of the host team, Land Rover Ben Ainslie Racing, and defending skipper, Jimmy Spithill of Oracle Team USA. More tomorrow – enjoy, Sailor Girl xx

Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15 – Stacey Jackson – When will we next see the magenta?!

This edition of the Volvo Ocean Race is done! Was fantastic to catch up with Stacey Jackson, of Team SCA; a fellow sailor girl, someone I have sailed with, and a friend after SCA’s second in the In-Port race today, moving them to the podium for the series! What an adventure! Enjoy xx

Hilary Lister – How sailing can give you wings…

A lot of us go sailing because of the freedom we experience… Well… Hilary Lister is a sailor girl who says that being on the water “gives her wings”. A quadriplegic, Hilary has sailed the English Channel, circumnavigated the UK, and now is doing ocean crossings. One amazingly passionate sailor girl on her own adventure. Just imagine if more people could discover the “freedom” of sailing? Sailor Girl xx

A catch up with Charlie and Will over coffee in Sweden

Had a great catch up over coffee with Charlie and Will today, still on a high after their win in leg 9, but getting back to business leading into the In-Port race which will decide whether they finish fourth or fifth overall. We chatted about the team, about how others might be able to develop themselves to get involved with the race, and also whether we will see them attack Mapfre in the In-Port race on Saturday! Enjoy xxx

Annie Lush on leg 8 and Team SCA

It has been a big twenty four hours for Team SCA, but an even bigger two and a half years that has brought them to this point. A great chat about the experience of the girls, versus the male and female differentiation that has been common place over the course of this race. I do hope like Annie that this program continues! Sailor Girl xx

Sam Davies after SCA’s leg 8 win!

A win in leg 8 from Lisbon to Lorient by Team SCA was just incredible, and it was special for me to sit down with Sam Davies today to chat about the whole program, how much SCA has achieved and how they were able to put together a win! So so awesome! #WeAreTeamSCA! Sailor Girl xx

Catching up with Ian Walker in Lorient

It’s a wrap! With a podium finish in Lorient, Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing have wrapped up the 2014-15 VOR with a race to spare. Absolutely awesome to catch up with Ian Walker, the skipper, “the morning after”! Congratulations to the whole team both sailors, and shore crew on their victory! Sailor Girl xx

On the water for the in port race and leg 7 start in Newport

Wow! Wasn’t the Volvo Ocean Race Newport stopover an event to be a part of, so lucky! Here are the adventures from on the water for the in port race, and the start of leg 7! Over 131,500 people were also a part of the action – one I will always remember, but I can’t wait for the next time I get to be involved with the Volvo Ocean Race! A big thanks to my major supporters, Zhik and GAC Pindar as well as Bennett Yachting & VX One for the use of the boat to be out on the water, Riptide Racing for so much help while in the US and skipper Chris for sailing with me! All footage is from GoPro Hero 4’s aside from the stock aerial overheads and start footage (thanks to Volvo Ocean Race Media), the VX One drone footage (thanks to the Bennett family), and the photos of me falling in (yes – what a muppet!), thanks to John Lincourt Photography. A Sunset Media production to share our awesome sport – Enjoy, Sailor Girl xx
